L'INTERVIEW: Culture3d, le 30.12.2006:

Aujourd'hui, nous vous présentons une inteview EXCLUSIVE avec l'Artiste Cvetomir GEORGIEV faite par le "culture3d|Team".

Hi Cvetomir!

First of all, we want to thank you for accepting to be interviewed by the culture3d.com’s team.

So, as it is the first time you speak to our public, would you want please to introduce yourself and your career to them?

cvetomir_gerogievHello, I`m real gratefull you give me this chance to present myself through your site and also that you`ve featured my work on your frontpage.

I`m 22 years old, born and living in Bulgaria. I`ve been doing CG professionally for 2 years now, and am currently working as a 3d character modeller in Masthead Studios .

Can you tell us about your skills in CG Arts, the softwares that you prefer and master and why?

Well before getting into CG, I practiced a lot of sculpting, it has allways been an interest of mine. That helped me develop my skills in modelling a lot because the two things are similar.
The first sofware I stumbled upon was 3ds Max and and still use it today – it has so far given me all the tools I need. And a year and a half ago I saw Zbrush - it was love at first touch sort of :) It`s an incredible piece of software all the way through texturing, modelling, render it`s perfect. I also use photoshop from time to time to draw textures do some colour adjustments and so on.

You are actually working at Masthead Studios. Can you tell us more about it and your job there?

I`m working there for almost a year now as a modeller – characters, creatures, and my favorite mutants offcourse… We`re developing a mmorpg, obviously I can`t say anything other than what`s released on the site so you can check it out www.play-era.com .

Who and What are your major sources of inspiration?

Well my idols are Aaron SIMS, Giger, Kenneth Scot, so they can pretty much be described as my major source of inspiration.

The “Autopsy: ” impressed many users. Can you explain what was it that made you do such a work?

Immediately when I saw Jan van Riemsdyk`s original I imagined it as 3d. Somehow I was reminded of where we come from, where it all starts. I knew that wouldn’t be accepted by everyone, but I did it. The result is evident - public showcase of such work is close to impossible. As much as I tried to steer it from that shallow gross feeling giving it a wax statue look it still is explicit.

What are the difficulties you encountered during this project’s making?

Maybe the hardest decision was leaving the woman’s legs like they were in the original, it seemed too brutal at the time, but I stuck to it. Also did a full colors version with the flesh, guts, blood and everything but dumped it as well. Another hurdle were the 4 000 000 polys. Work was slow at times because of that, and I had to work on small portions of the model individually.

I think the “Old Head” was much easier than “Autopsy: human embryo”, can you tell us a bit about it?

Yes, mainly because of the lower poly count :) Old Head was more about setting up the materials, lighting and textures right. I actually have a “making of” planned for that one but I never seem to find the time :( I’ll probably do another head and with it show the process.

Making super-real models is the “dream” of all 3D users especially beginners. What are the main instructions you can give to them to reach such a skill?

Well the most important when making “super-real” models would be looking at reference and other people’s work of course. Also having a good anatomy book around might be a good idea and listening to other people’s critique and not giving up that’s especially important :)

What about your dream(s)? And what are your plans for future?

I`ve got a lot of dreams about CG – one of them is working for a big movie studio or a game like Doom :) Also to become as good as Aaron Sims. My plans for the future are to continue developing as an artist and fulfill my dreams :)

Are you working on any project currently? If yes, what are they?

Yes, I`ve got concept in mind, a couple of days I developed a very interesting material in Zbrush. It`s a material for flesh, kind of gross but picturesque :) I`ll start working on the model soon.

Did you never plan to publish training materials (DVDs, books or tutorials)?

Sure, if I got offered to do any and had the time… it would be an honor :)

Are you planning to publish a portfolio in the www?

I`m planning to publish one in a while. I`ll finish two or three more works, sift through some of my older stuff that’s either unfinished or just too old. And maybe add some of my models done for freelance and my current job.

Well! Keep in mind to inform us about it when done. ;)
Anything to add… Any message you want to pass to our readers?

You`ll be the first to know I promise :)
To the readers and to you too I want to wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
More 3d and a new Zbrush next year :)

Ok! So, that’s all…
Thank you again Cvetomir for accepting answering to our questions.
We wish you Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year 2007.

Thanks for your time. Thanks for featuring my work on Culture3d, it was an honour. Thank you for your wishes and happy holidays to you too.
